What Is The Best Upconverting Blue Ray Player

The Big Bang Theory ... in Italian no thanks! Again

The Big Bang Theory is a new American sitcom funny that tells the story of two young scientists extremely nerdy, which is disrupted by the arrival of a new neighbor.
Unfortunately, the poor adaptation of the Italian dubbing completely overwhelms the context of the series, going as far as to change the style of the characters.
Carry a lengthy treatise on the net found that perfectly describes the havoc they have done:

That the Italian dubbing is one of the best (if not the best) in the world is now common knowledge for years and is a source of pride for the people of beautiful country. That not all of which have come to realize is that quality, at least on the dubbing of the series, have declined in recent years, in inverse proportion to the increase of imported American and British series. Too much work? Too little time? Too much competition? Maybe.
The fact remains that we users, increasingly, we see a glaring oversights and / or outright errors of translation at least leave us perplexed. How 'can you ask? And 'because more people can now see the show in original language. And when, then later saw them in Italian catches, depending on their level of knowledge of foreign languages, so many nuances and inconsistencies and inexplicable and incomprehensible decisions which certainly did not invite him in pursuit of the vision.
's what the flop of Heroes in Italian, where a plate and a translation, dubbing barbara (port only the example of Mr. Muggles who left in shock the whole community of fans who love her or not Harry Potter) did give up thousands of young people who, having already seen in English, wanted to refresh your memory seeing it dubbed in their mother tongue.
But the barbarity of translation and adaptation that most ruthless the history of the Italian dubbing memories are surely those perpetrated on the sit-com, comedy series and all that in English would make you laugh. In Italian, the days of Friends, more than any American comedy series has been successful and made really funny as the original. While, however, the series crime, mystery, the procedural and so are able to maintain, transposition, a certain level and to be loved in Italian (see the examples of "Law & Order and the various spin-offs, CSI, NCIS, Criminal Minds, etc.) , the comedy does not have the same fate.
without forwarding the analysis of series famous in America and in Italy that does not look any more because they do not laugh (see "How I Met Your Mother Two and a half or less), I want to focus on the analysis of the series, well-known and highly respected in America and around the world (original language) that has just landed in Italy with a voice-over, according to my fans and all disastrous: The Big Bang Theory.

The series, presented as a preview at the Roma Fiction Fest (but which, in fact, have already been aired four episodes in Italian), debuted in America in September 2007, immediately gaining a huge public consensus.
The Big Bang Theory, however, is not a series for everyone. It 'a series that makes you laugh and like a certain type of people, those people who understand things that are said, who know how to contextualize and who can smile in a given human characteristic: being nerds.
The series, therefore, has a specific target: the young (and not so young) nerds, who love science, video games and science fiction. The series shows us four young geniuses, their lives and their relationship difficulties with others, and especially with the opposite sex.

Watching dubbed version in Italian, the first thing that leaps out is that almost all the nerd references have been removed and replaced by references or other types of dialogues. The thing is very serious when you consider that much of the irony of the show is based on that. Not only
. The protagonists in the original version, are characterized by a typical staff with language which they differ and are binding on the public that loves to cite them and take them back, make sure you have a comic effect. Even this, in Italian, no trace. The linguistic characterization is lost, as you lose the nerd references, as it often loses the sense of what you are saying.

Step to make a series of examples to argue the above. In episode one we know the characters. Leonard, Sheldon and Penny are the first we meet, then Howard and Rajesh.

The show opens in a sperm bank for supergene to which Leonard and Sheldon went to make a donation in exchange for money to increase the internet bandwidth.

Sheldon: Leonard, I do not think I can do this.
Leonard: What, are you kidding? You're a semi-pro.
Sheldon: No, we are committing fraud genetic. There's no sperm Our garantee That's going to generate high-IQ offspring, think about that. I have a sister with the basic DNA mix That Same hosts at Fuddruckers.

In the Italian scene has become:

Sheldon: Leonard, I can not do it.
Leonard: Seriously? Are you a semi-donor now. (Sure it's the donor?)
Sheldon: No, this is fraud gene itself. What guarantee is there that is generated from our seed offspring superintelligent. My sister said the first words in six years and made the same class five times.

I would like a second adaptation of the last sentence of Sheldon. Fuddruckers is a chain of Fast Food unknown in Italy but the problem would not arise, because it could be replaced by an ordinary McDonalds or Burger King. Sheldon also has a twin sister, and then refer to the same DNA I do not think would have caused big problems. Instead of translating, therefore, literally, and get a joke funny and typically Sheldon, it was decided to invent an absurd turn of phrase and, in my opinion, unlikely. In fact, that a child begins to talk to 6 years can stay there, but to repeat a class 5 times, in Italy, it seems highly unlikely. And, indeed, anyone who feels this dialogue (without knowing how it was in English) is a moment stunned because they do not understand the meaning.

Leonard: Well, what do you want to do?
Sheldon: I want to leave. What's the protocol for leaving?
Leonard: I do not know, I've never reneged on a proffer of sperm before.

Leonard: So? What do you do?
Sheldon: Anything but that. (The one thing ?!?!?!) How do you withdraw?
Leonard: I do not know, is the first time that the seed does not end on my bedspread.

The choice of introducing such a sentence is, in my opinion, entirely because of place, not only does not say Leonard anything like that, but also because Leonard throughout the show has never flirted vulgarity, I do not see why it should do so in Italian.

Sheldon: You want to hear an interesting thing about stairs?
Leonard: Not really.
Sheldon: If the height of a single step is off by as little as two millimeters, most people Would trip.
Leonard: I do not care.

Sheldon: I know one thing on the stairs, you want to know?
Leonard: Do not torment me.
Sheldon: Lowering the height of the steps of only two millimeters, people stumble.
Leonard: You're baiting.

Why "Not Really" and "I do not care" were translated as "Do not torment me"? Among other things, there is not even the need to adapt to the sores because once the character is behind the other is framed in profile ...

Leonard: New neighbor?
Sheldon: Evidently.
Leonard: Significant improvement over the old neighbor. Sheldon
: 200-pound transvestite with a skin condition? Yes, she is.

Leonard: Before there was.
Sheldon: No, never seen before.
Leonard: The closest they came before the wreck?
Sheldon: If they accept trans 100 kg and the cellulite on the cheeks ...

Apart from that I disagree with the adjustment in its entirety, decision to include the word "wreck" to give it that Italian touch is certainly terrible idea. Similar choices they will also find it later when the question: do you work? is translated as: Do the caregivers to keep? There are no words ...

Leonard: I think We Should be good neighbors and invite her over, make her feel welcome.
Sheldon: We never invited Louie-slash-Louise over.
Leonard: And That Was wrong of us. We need to widen Our circle.
Sheldon: I have a very wide circle. I have 212 friends on MySpace.
Leonard: Yes, and you've never met one of Them.
Sheldon: That's the beauty of it.
Leonard: I'm gonna invite her over. We'll have a nice meal and ... chat.
Sheldon: Chat? We do not chat. At least not offline.
Leonard: It's not difficult. You just listen to what she says and then you say something appropriate in response.
Sheldon: To what end?

Leonard: We need to be good neighbors, make you feel at ease at home.
Sheldon: Do not ever invites the elephant who lived there before.
Leonard: It was a big mistake, we have to make new friends.
Sheldon: Please look beyond your landing. I have already '210 friends on my site.
Leonard: Too bad you do not ever met one.
Sheldon: I would say that this is the best part.
Leonard: Well, I will I want to invite. ... To eat and talk.
Sheldon: To talk? And say hello, how are you, well, hello?
Leonard: Do not give in to the first difficulty, basically, for you are two strangers who have the arduous task of putting it at ease.
Sheldon: To what extent?

Now, on this piece I would like a moment. First, we should highlight two fairly obvious translation errors such as 210 and 212 friends who become the "To what end?" Becomes "How far?".
Especially for the latter, wanting to consider the first an oversight, I would point out that this translation, as well as wrong, does not capture all those that are relational difficulties of the two protagonists, especially Sheldon who has not the slightest understanding of social conventions.
I would also like to point out that all the nerd references have been deleted and replaced with strange adaptations. Sheldon would never make a comment on the physical aspect of a person so offensive (and in fact the original does not). Myspace is a well-known community and do not see why underestimate the understanding of an Italian audience as trivializing the phrase. Not to mention the "we do not chat, at least not offline" even turned into a "To talk? And to say: hello, how are you, well, hello? "...
A careful viewer will not take long to understand the lack of grasp ideas hidden behind this trivial solution.

Leonard: If you like boards, this is my board. Penny
: Holy smokes.
Sheldon: If by "holy smokes," you mean a derivative restatement of the kind of stuff you can find scribbled on the wall of Any men's room at MIT, sure.

Leonard: This is mine, and it is also of better quality.
Penny: Just fans.
Sheldon: If this is your opinion on what from synthetic usually found scrawled on blackboards around the rooms of the boys at MIT, yes.

It seems to me well known that both the men's room men's room, not the boards of the availability of males.

Sheldon: In the winter, That seat is close enough to the radiator to Remain warm, and yet not so close as to cause perspiration.

Sheldon: In winter the place is so close to the radiator but we'll be in the warm embrace must if one wants to sweat.

Why this choice to change the original sentence? Among other things, as I said before, Sheldon in particular uses a very peculiar language that make it fun. Why change a sentence of fun with a similar adaptation?

Leonard: This is nice, we do not have a lot of company over.
Sheldon: That’s not true. Koothrappali and Wolowitz come over all the time.
Leonard: I know, but…
Sheldon: Tuesday night, we played Klingon Boggle till 1:00 a.m.
Leonard: Yeah, I remember.
Sheldon: Don’t say we don’t have company.
Leonard: Sorry.
Sheldon: That has negative social implications.
Leonard: I said I’m sorry!
Penny: So… Klingon Boggle?
Leonard: Yeah. It’s like regular Boggle, but… in Klingon.

Leonard: E poi qui non รจ mai affollato, noi parliamo comodamente seduti.
Sheldon: Non dire sciocchezze, Koothrappali e Wolowitz stanno qui giorno e notte.
Leonard: Yes, I know ...
Sheldon: The day before yesterday at Risk have not won a game until 3 in the morning.
Leonard: Blame for Mexico and Cuba
Sheldon: Well, this house is always full of people.
Leonard: Yes, I know ...
Sheldon: It will not be crowded, but certainly ...
Leonard: Okay, it's like a train.
Penny: You also played Scrabble?
Leonard: Oh, sure, but we are never more than 450.

Again, the desire to delete a reference nerd has completely disrupted the structure and meaning of the speech.
The "Klingon Boggle" has been replaced 2 times with 2 different games inventing something that does not exist in the original.
Moreover, while in English the poor Leonard continues to apologize for the "recklessness" of his assertion, in Italian was promoted to state that their house is a kind of station.

Penny: I'm a vegetarian. Except for fish. And the occasional steak. I love steak!
Leonard: Do you have some sort of a job?
Penny: I'm a waitress at The Cheesecake Factory.

Penny: Oh, I am of Sagittarius, but I've already said. What I did not say is that I love steak ... good!
Leonard: We keep doing studies to the caregiver?
Penny: No, I'm the maid the Cheesecake Factory.

I'd like to understand why you have changed the whole "I am a vegetarian except for fish and as it is claimed that, in Italian, the phrase I love the steaks laugh excluding the preceding measure.
Moreover, as I said before, translating the question "Do you have a job?" With "I'll keep doing the studies caretaker" is not only wrong (since the original word carer is not there and because you are not Penny said he never studies) but introduces a negative connotation of the character that does not exist in the original.

Leonard: Should I say something? I feel like I should say something.
Sheldon: You? No, you'll only make it worse.
Penny: You Want To Know The Most pathetic part? Even though I hate His lying, cheating guts ... I still love him.

Leonard: I feel I should say something but I do not know what, for Diana.
Sheldon: You? The risk is too big.
Penny: But what sends me into jelly, is that I miss all the lies you told me. I can not forget him.

While wanting to fly on adaptation that, after all, does not distort the way crabs do not understand what need there was to use the phrase "But what sends me into jelly" which is tremendous and far too colloquial for the context and where it jumps out "for Diana ". We continue to put into the mouths of characters in words unspoken, meaning no data, vulgarity, or rants are not present.

Penny: On top of everything else, I'm all gross from moving and my stupid shower Does not even work.

Penny: I also just moved, smell like a boar, and my shower was broken.

Again colorful language totally alien to the series.

I did not want to dwell so much but I let myself get carried away. I arrived only 12 minutes and I still got only examples that seemed most striking.

I would end the roundup with the last minute of the first episode that gives two other examples of very interesting.
Leonard and Sheldon convinces Penny to do her a favor, go out and leave them alone at home with Howard and Rajesh. An entire scene in which Howard shows his character in a role-playing game and makes speeches in language typical of the genre is completely changed.
Later, Sheldon Leonard and fall in his underwear.

Penny: Why Do not You Put Some Clothes on, I'll get my purse, and dinner is on me, okay?

Penny: Go put some clothes on, you dine with me tonight, okay?

obvious and glaring error in translation. If you wish to accept the idea of \u200b\u200ban oversight, as this sentence is justified by the next scene they are all in the car going out to eat?

Sheldon: We Can not Have Thai food, We had Indian for lunch.
Penny: So?
Sheldon: They're Both curry-based cuisines.
Penny: So?
Sheldon: It Would Be gastronomically redundant.

Sheldon: No Thai, Indian we ate lunch.
Penny: So what?
Sheldon: The curry goes crazy from there.
Penny: So what?
Sheldon: Too much makes me Currie.

do not even know how to spell the word currie since it does not exist. But even if it existed, I see no reason to use it when a literal translation would have made you laugh (and not much more than just laugh because the translation is not fun) and would act in conformity with fidelity to the already dimensioned line of comic language Sheldon.

In conclusion, the dubbing of the series is a complete failure. Errors in translation, adaptation wild annulment of the two main features of the comedy sitcom.
The examples speak for themselves and, if I wanted, I could continue. But I stop and ask myself a question.
I studied translation, are fond of show and I delight in fansubbing. But I have not studied adaptation for dubbing. Therefore I ask myself as a mentor and censor because I know that the dubbing would involve different name at the time, the sores, etc..
What I wonder, though, is this: Does it really make sense dub a series of its kind in this way to obtain this result? The world of fansubbing is gaining increasing ground. He started the frenzy to immediately see how Lost would end and he finished the series in order to appreciate the original language snubbing the mediocre products dubbed. By the way, many fans (myself included) feel almost offended by dubbing made this way. It seems that an Italian can not understand a dialogue in which you mention Darth Vader, myspace and chat rooms. Perhaps the target of the show was not well understood, otherwise I doubt (and hope) that he would follow a similar approach.
I hope someone will reflect the foregoing.
